PANDEMIC

Mixed Media Sculpture, 2020

12 x 12’

In a year of chaos, uncertainty, and the breaking of norms, my work also took an unexpected turn. Lacking the outlet of physical gallery spaces in 2020, I turned to my own front yard as an exhibition platform. What was originally envisioned as an ephemeral installation during quarantine became the central focus of my work for the entire year. With one butterfly representing every 1000 recorded U.S. deaths from coronavirus, this ongoing project is both a memorial to those we have lost and a documentation of the magnitude of the disaster created by a failed administration that refused to take action to protect its own citizens. That number at the time of this writing is 361,814.
