Laura Sussman-Randall is currently offering children's classes for ages 3-14. Students are introduced to traditional
art concepts and examples from art history with fun and age appropriate projects.

The Story of Art—ages 3-6 (parent attendance required)

Parents and children will hear a story, then create a work of art together exploring color, shape, texture and more.
(each session will feature a different story)

Wednesdays 10-10:55 am:

3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 4/7, 4/14, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 5/26 

One 55 min session $10 + $2 supply fee


Art or Craft?–Ages 6 - 10

Fun 2-D and 3-D projects in a variety of materials, combined with basic art and art history concepts.

Tuesdays 10:00am-10:55am OR 3:30pm-4:25pm

3/2 - 3/23, 3/30 - 4/20, 4/27 - 5/18

Four 55 minute sessions $40, plus $8 supply fee

 

Young Artist Fine Arts Studio–Ages 9 - 14

Intro to basic concepts of fine art including line, shape, value, color. Exposure to a variety of materials.

Teaching

The Story of Art

After hearing "Where the Wild Things Are" and "The Big Pets," we created our own Wild Things and made a group mural for them to "live" in. Concepts explored: Animals, environments (setting), horizon line, use of materials.

Lesson: “Value makes art POP”

After viewing examples from Artist Jim Dine, students created these pop art images of ordinary objects. Concepts explored: Shape and line, complementary color, value/contrast, use of oil pastels/blending.

Lesson: "Listen to your Eyes!"

Students created crayon and watercolor resist paintings after practicing contour drawing technique. Concepts explored: Drawing what you see (ie, an apple is not really a bright red circle), composition, resist technique.
